Leslie and Mario in the office, are so helpful and caring to both us and our various visitors. They were always ready to make a good experience even better! Whale watching from Luana Kai is wonderfully easy. Beach walking is pleasant and easy.Room Tip: Oceanfront conos are ideal! Higher floors afford a better view of whales and wind surfers.

We live in Alberta, Canada. When I booked on the phone Leslie was so nice and helpful, made me feel really comfortable about my decision to stay at Luana Kai. We got there late at night and everything was as they said it would be. Great place. We rented a jeep so we could explore the island on our own, and Mario pretty much made all of the arrangements for us, great!

The room was great and any questions we had where easily answered. They were also very helpful about recommending places to see.

At one point we had construction outside our room and when we asked them about it they were very helpful and we left feeling more than taken care of.

Amazing if you want a place to stay while you explore the island or if you want to just lounge, great pool for that.

Room Tip: We loved the oceanview rooms, Building A or D.

Smoking at Luana Kai ends June 1st 2012

Important News folks!

We recently had a Board Meeting at Luana Kai. I want all of you to be aware that as of June 1, 2012, Luana Kai will be a NO smoking property.

There will be no smoking on the lanais or inside the condos. Smoking will be permitted only in designated areas in the parking lot.

Thunder and lightning upcountry Maui

The last few days have been very blustery up there. Our webmaster sent us this shot from today of the West Maui’s from Kula… One of the clearest air views we’ve seen in a long time. The rain has washed away all of the VOG and the island is seethign with water and things are starting to grow like crazy.

A Sunday Drive

On a Sunday we went upcountry. There’s nothing else like it. Beautiful flowers everywhere, incredible sweeping vistas, horses, cows and sheep. And so many quaint shops…There’s a lot to do upcountry but we just went for a Sunday drive. We saw these horses and this view of Kihei from on high. Sometimes getting above the floor of the island can give a sense of perspective, Maui is really small way out here in the middle of the Pacific. So much blue and green and in Summer, plenty of yellow too. In the 1700′s and 1800′s, loggers removed the sandalwood from the mountain and with it went he Kihei watershed. Sometimes I imagine what Kihei would be like. Full of green lush vegetation like Haiku and flowing pools.

These horses were across from Rice Memorial park on Lower Kula Highway. IT’s a beautiful palce to stop with the clearest sweeping vista. You can park and just take in the view or get out and stroll the park. If you have kids with you, bring a few cardboard boxes. Tear them so they are just a long piece of cardboard and the kids can sled them down the steep grass hill. They don’t go very fast but it makes them happy. Stop on over to Grandma’s Coffee when your done or the Ulupalakua Ranch Store. Both of them have great lunches and Grandma’s has great coffee. Wherever you are, we hope you have a great Sunday too… we’ll be thingking of you and wishing you were here at Luana Kai Resort. Aloha!

Kealia Pond and the New Boardwalk

If you haven’t been there yet, the several year old Kealia Boardwalk project along Sugar Beach has been finished and is a great place to stroll out over the pond. Just park in the small parking lot, put on your sunscreen and start walking. You’ll likely see birds like these enjoying the now safer and lower-human-impact environ. This Ae’o (Hawaiian Stilt) searches for fish and worms while the ‘Auku’ (A Black Crowned Night Heron) stands sentinel still.

If you get a chance, come on by and take a walk. You’ll be glad you did. The boardwalk has placards that describe the environment and the animals in it.

Another Kihei Day

Kalama Park is a nice sunny park with a super playground for kids and plenty of picnic tables and barbecues for families. It also has a skate rink, a skateboard park and a big whale sculpture. Come and enjoy the sunny life in Kihei Maui Hawaii!

When You Arrive in Paradise

When you arrive in Paradise, will it look like this? Will the sun be shining? Will he weather be warm? Will the breeze be cool? Will the air be fresh? Will the roads be clear? Will the people be nice? Will you Receive a flower lei? Will someone offer you aloha? Will everyone be smiling? Will you begin relaxing right away? Will you anticipate all the fun your about to have? Will you consider snorkeling or scubaing in the ocean? Will you plan on biking down the steepest 10,000 foot road rising from summit to sea? Will you explore the lava fields? Will you golf? Will you let go of all your cares? Will you laugh loudly and deeply? Will you smile at a stranger? Will you kiss someone you love? Will you feel gracious? Will you dine at world class restaurants? Eat Sashimi? Watch Kiteboarders? Sail board yourself? Or maybe boogie board? Or undress at little beach? Will you take in a Luau? Or a world class show at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center? Or see films under the stars in Wailea? What else will you do? How else will it be?

We don’t know exactly how it will be or what you will do but we know why Maui is called paradise. We know why Maui is called “No Ka Oi”. We know why Conde Nast declares Maui the best island in the world year after year after year. That’s why we live here. And that’s why you come.

More Beautiful Days as Suspected

Maui doesn’t get much less beautiful, grey at times from weather but Kihei is almost always sunny. This view is from the King Kamehameha golf course between Waikapu and Ma’alaea. In the foreground you can see Kealia pond and in the far back the beginning of Makena Hill.
