“Upcountry Maui” is comprised of towns raised in elevation on the side of Haleakala. Hali’imaile, Makawao, Pukalani, Kula and Ulupalakua and sometimes even parts of Haiku are considered “Upcountry”. Sweeping vistas make up much of the view Upcountry From Makena beaches and the island of Kaho’olawe in the South and falling across the West Maui’s, Kahakuloa, Kahului and Ho’okipa in the North East. Purple Jacaranda blossoms across upcountry every year in late April – a grand purple trail – stretching from Makawao to Keokea.

Kula
- Kula Bistro is right across from Morihara’s General Store in Kula Maui, moments from Calasa’s service station and the Haleakala Waldorf School. I have never been to Kula Bistro when it wasn’t busy. It is the go to place in Kula every night of the week. With popular American and Italian fare as well as local fresh salads, the favorites will please your whole family.
- La Provence is a small French bistro that is also packed when it is open. Think eggs, cream, pancakes, crepes, omelettes, croissants, and pastries!
Makawao
- Casanova’s is a Maui tradition. Elegant, Italian cuisine. Made by hand linguini, rigatoni, bucatini, ravioli. Even gluten-free pastas! All fresh, all famously delicious. Try Casanova’s wood fired pizzas, popular on Maui long before food trucks mimicked the trend. Enjoy affordable to luxurious meals made in the great Italian tradition. Karaoke Mondays and Country Music Sundays. Casanova’s can even be completely booked for your day or night event.
- Polli’s is a small Mexican Restaurant just down the road from Oskie Rice Arena – the only place your going to see a rodeo on Maui. Polli’s serves the Paniolo’s of Maui with time tested Mexican fare that has evolved with Upcountry Maui. Tacos, burritos, salads, carnitas, enchiladas and so much more.
